The Cicada's

Apparently every 13 years Nashville gets completely taken over by Cicada's. As luck would have it this is that year and the mating has commenced. They are seriously everywhere. The first day we really noticed them Brigham thought someone was outside weed whacking all day long because of the constant buzzing sound they make. They fly around in swarms all day. Sort of like Utah's box elder bugs only on steroids. They don't bite or hurt anything so it's actually been really fun watching and listening to them. Plus all the birds are getting nice and fat.
They cover just about every tree in the city.

They shed their skins so there are piles of them at the bottom of the tree trunks. There are also piles of them on the sidewalks around our apartment. Walking to the car makes the same crunching sound as walking through piles of leaves in the fall.:)

The little kids love 'em!

It takes a minute before we figure out how to get the camera to focus on all the bugs. The static noise you hear is the buzzing sound they make, it's not as loud on the camera as it is in real life. It's almost enough to make your ears hurt when they really get going.:)
